Pre-conference Workshop Announcement
Workshop on Urban Tree Inspection and Standing Timber Assessment
Prior to the symposium, a full day workshop will be offered on urban tree inspection and standing timber assessment including a tour of the Tijuca National Park (24 km from the Windsor Atlantica Hotel) on September 22, 2015. The workshop is organized by the College of Agricultural Engineering – FEAGRI/UNICAMP and IUFRO D5.2 Research Group and will include lectures on the following topics: Introduction, Tree Physiology, Basic Nondestructive Testing Techniques, Urban Tree Assessment, and Standing Timber Assessment. Following the morning lectures, field demonstrations and hands-on field work will be offered in the afternoon. Through this one-day workshop, you will become familiar with state-of-the-art nondestructive testing technologies for urban tree inspection and wood quality assessment in standing timber. You will also get a better understanding of the most recent developments in NDT research in these areas and avoid pitfalls in planning new research projects and conducting field nondestructive testing experiments.

Information about Tijuca National Park
The Tijuca Forest is considered the largest urban forest in the whole world. It represents 7% of the whole city`s territory, and it is also known as the lungs of Rio. Visiting the city without seeing the forest is like going to New York City not seeing the Central Park. Rio is all about nature, wild places and beautiful views. All of these 3 things can be seen and enjoyed in Tijuca Forest. For more information on the Tijuca forest, please visit park's website: http://rioadventures.com/tijuca-forest-tour/
